Local, sustainable, ethical flowers

Thank you for your interest in local flowers for your upcoming wedding or event! We would love to share what makes The Local Flower Collective so special, and why we are so passionate about sustainability within the floral industry.

We introduced floral event design as part of our services to bring more local and sustainably-grown flowers into the market. Not only could we further support our local growers but we could also design beautiful and unique events without compromising the health of our planet.

We believe that locally and ethically grown flowers should be accessible to everyone. We have developed a streamlined quotation process and special offerings for weddings and events.

Like our flowers, the community of The Local Flower Collective is a diverse and inclusive one. All are welcome. We want to celebrate your individuality.

Our events and designs are organized and overseen by one of our co-founders, Jaimie Reeves of inscape floral.

All of the flowers and foliage we use in our designs are grown by our grower members, which are all located within a 200 km radius of our Toronto studio. Currently we only use field-grown flowers which means the growing season is typically from May-October. If your wedding or event is in our off-season, we suggest reaching out to one of our florist members who work year-round.

Field-grown flowers have their own personality, and fluctuate in their availability given the weather during the growing season. We’re not able to guarantee specific flowers, but we can guarantee design styles and colour palettes. Local flowers are all incredibly unique, which makes them very special.

Sustainability is one of the foundations of The Local Flower Collective. Which is: meeting our needs without compromising future generations and the health of our planet.

Our growers do not use pesticides or chemicals which helps to maintain the natural balance of the earth. Unlike grocery stores and other wholesalers, our growers only cut what has been ordered, which means nothing is wasted: not labour, not flowers, not gas and not time. The flowers we use are delivered to us already in water, and in most cases cut the day before; they’re as fresh as it gets!

We do not use floral foam in our designs. Floral foam is a single use, toxic, micro plastic that gets into our water source. We work hard to develop fantastic design mechanics that help us avoid the use of foam or any chemical treatments.

No matter the size of our events, the garbage we create can typically fit in one hand, and we don’t often have to recycle any cardboard or plastics. The majority of the waste created in the design process is compostable.

Using local flowers is a commitment to supporting the local economy and sustainable businesses practices.

Even though local flowers can sometimes be more expensive, we want them to be accessible to everyone. We have designed our packages to reflect a variety of budgets and needs.

Not only do we work to contribute to a healthy local economy, we also try to give back as best we can. With each event or item purchased from us, a portion goes to local food banks or environmental organizations.

Flexible, custom floral arrangements to suit your needs and your budget. Choose the elements that matter most to you, and forgo the others! For this option we cannot offer rental items or do installations.

DIY FLORALS

A package designed for creative folks who would like to design their own locally grown blooms. Flowers sold by the bunch! This package does not include any hard goods/rentals/design support.

There is no minimum spend for this offering.

If you have your heart set on certain imported flowers or dyed or bleached elements, we will not be able to design for your event.
