à la carte faq

Here we have gathered answers to frequently asked questions regarding our À La Carte floral offerings. For general FAQ, please refer to our FAQ Page.

Who is the florist arranging my À La Carte flowers?
The Local Flower Collective is owned and run by Jaimie Reeves of inscape floral. The manager of operations and lead designer for TLFC is Jessica H. Payne. Studio assistants, Carly Fedak, and Bernadette Collins, also design for TLFC alongside many other talented florists in our membership base, namely Bethany Rose Puttkemery and Hayley O’Byrne.

Can I speak to a designer or have a consultation?
For our À La Carte package we do not offer consultations or meetings with designers. Once you have confirmed your order, a designer will follow up within a few business days to confirm your details and answer any questions you might have.

My event is not for a few months, when should I place my order?
We appreciate as much notice as possible so that we may select the perfect blooms for your special day, and to ensure our availability for your event. Two months advance notice, at minimum, is required.

How will my À La Carte order be packaged?
In an effort to be as environmentally thoughtful as possible, your order will be packaged safely, reusing materials that come through our studio. This looks like reusing cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, tissue paper, and other recycled packaging. All bouquets and arrangements will be in vases with water.

A reminder that if you are picking up your order, you must arrive in either a large SUV or van with working air conditioning. Of course the size of your vehicle is subject to the size of your order, but please be thoughtful upon arriving of the amount of space required to transport your florals. If you have questions about this, feel free to reach out.

How should I care for my flower order prior to my event?
Once your order is finalized and we have received full payment, you will be emailed care instructions. When you arrive home with your flowers, be sure to check the water level on all of your bouquets and arrangements - make sure each stem is in water (some water may have escaped the vessel during transport). Top up the water regularly. Keep your flowers in a cool place, away from the sun.

Can I request something I don’t see in your collection?
Yes, there is a section at the bottom of our À La Carte form under “Special Requests” where you can write in any additional floral pieces you would like.

Can I give you a list of the exact flowers I would like for you to use?
Unfortunately, we are not able to guarantee specific flowers are used, as we follow the natural bloom cycle of local, Ontario flowers. If the flower you are requesting is in season as reflected on our Bloom Calendar, we would be happy to include it. In the À La Carte form under “Special Requests” you can let us know your favourites, and we’ll do our best based on their seasonal availability.

How does pick up/delivery work?
For our À La Carte offerings, we offer pick up in the morning at our Toronto studio. We recommend picking up the day of your event for optimal freshness, however, they can be picked up the day before if you have a cool place to keep the flowers. Once again, be sure to arrive in a vehicle large enough to accommodate the size of your order - flowers are delicate and require lots of space to be transported safely! We do offer delivery, as long as we have ample notice (kindly request delivery at the time of submitting your intake form, or a minimum of 3 weeks out from your event). Delivery starts at $300.00 CAD for deliveries within Toronto, and requires a 2 hour delivery window.

Why can I only order flowers between May and October?
We only work with local, field-grown flowers, which are solely available in Ontario between May and October!

Can you provide an arch or a chuppah?
Unfortunately we do not offer any rentals with our À La Carte package. If you require an arch or installation(s), please check out our florist members who offer full service floral design for events.

Do you offer setup and takedown?
Unfortunately we do not offer either service as a standard aspect of our À La Carte package. We are able to offer some set up on a case by case basis, for an additional charge. If this is something you are interested in, we will need to schedule a consultation to discuss. Please select the option at the very end of our intake form “Yes, I would like to book a consultation for an additional charge.”

Can you share photos of my order prior to pick up/delivery? Am I able to approve my flowers?
Unfortunately not! We have images on our website of our work, which you can use as a rough design guideline. We will have enough information from your intake form to ensure you are very happy with the flowers we put together for you!

What vases or containers will you be using?
We offer glass or ceramic vessels, based on your preferred selection on your intake form. The vases are unlikely to be visible once filled with flowers. We offer the option to provide your own vases, which must be pre-approved by us.

Can I provide my own vases?
Yes! If you are providing your own vases, you will receive a 10% discount on centrepieces on your final invoice, once we have approved the vases (through photos and the sharing of dimensions). All vases must be dropped off at our Toronto studio minimum one week prior to your event, cleaned and with all stickers removed.

Do you offer floral installations?
Unfortunately we do not offer this service with the À La Carte package.

Can we rent vases or candles from you?
Unfortunately, no. The vases required for your floral selections are built into the price of your florals, so that guests are able to take flowers home, and there is no coordination required to return. We do not provide candles.

Are my flowers less expensive because they are local?
No, they are not! If you would like to better understand the nature of local flowers and their importance, please take a peek at our Weddings page.

Why are your À La Carte offerings less expensive than a full floral package? Seeing as our intake form is able to collect the majority of the information we require, admin/consult time is nearly eliminated! With these automations we’re able to offer competitive pricing on this package, and instead focus our time on your custom designs!

Why are you not able to offer greenery garlands?
Unfortunately local greenery is not hearty enough to hold up out of water! Foliage native to Ontario is often more expensive and ultimately becomes more costly than floral centrepieces, due to the labor required for maintenance and assembly.
